Responsive icons: using the SVG outlines?

We were talking with P.J Oniri and Scott Lewis about how to automate, then speed-up, the responsive design icons process. Check the great article and our conversation here.

Here is a proof of concept that I want to share, showing that using the SVG features we could easily create different versions of the same icons, adapted to the screen size.

Advantages:

  • It's easy to automatize: just create one version of the icons, then use the SVG markup to change the stroke width, related to the user display size.
  •  It's faster to load: the user load just one version of the icon, it's transformed only via the SVG markup.

Problems:

  • Works only for the outline style icons!
(but maybe there is a way to use the SVG features for filled icons)

Work faster with the icons multiselection - New feature

We've just added the icons multiselection: you will work faster by just dragging a lasso selection around the icon you to select.

It was the most demanded feature on the Feedback forum, with 29 votes, so it was top of our todo list.
We're very happy to release it!

Manage your icons collections

Now you can make Fontastic faster, and the interface lighter, by deactivating the collections you don't use.

We plan to add more icon collections soon, that's why we needed to allow you to remove the collections you don't use. With less collections loaded, the application load faster, your browser uses less resources, and the interface is less cluttered.

You can activate/deactivate the collections by clicking on the "Collections" item in the top menu.

You should go to Fontastic to try it!

New - Search Icons in Fontastic

Search icons by name was the highest demanded function by the Fontastic users, so we've put it top of our roadmap.

Today, we've released it!
Have a look to this previewbelow, or go to Fontastic to play with it!

Icons are searched by icon name, or tags associated to it (only the admin can add tags to the public collections so far)

Fontastic: New design + more features coming soon!

Just released a new "flat" design for Fontastic.
Proud to use the "Terminal Dosis"by the great Pablo Impallari. This font fit well with the icons (they share the same rounded corners style)

New features!

We work hard to make Fontastic better. These features will be released in the next weeks:

  • Search icons by name or tags. You will find icons faster, typing a keyword like "eye", "data" or "home"
  • Manage icons collections. Deactivate an icon collection if you don't use it. You can still activate it later in a new "Collection" page, or activate new collections. So Fontastic will be faster , as you only load the icons you really use.
  • More icons coming! We will add more free icons, and premium collections are coming soon with the complete Minicons collection: 1500 vector icons!
  • We'll improve the application design soon: with an even more clear and enjoyable interface.

A sneak peak at the next design:
